Bricking the device probably will and I’ve heard it’s about 3k to replace, but if you follow these instructions you have nothing to worry about). (Double Note: Doing this update yourself will NOT void your warranty. (Note: Please plug your iPhone in via USB to enable CarPlay! That’s the only way it will work!!!) Once on the main screen, click the menu button and now you should see a screen projection option and a CarPlay toggle in general settings: I recommend powering off the car again for 60 secs and then cranking back up. Once it finishes the second phase it will automatically reboot. The second phase will cycle through exactly like the first, so don’t be alarmed when you see the same loading screens. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THAT YOU WANT TO POWER OFF THE CAR!!! Once you start up the car again (there’s no grace period you can crank the car right after you turn it off, just keep the USB stick inserted) Entune will automatically enter the second phase of the update-you don’t have to touch anything. After the first phase Entune will ask you to turn off the car and restart it. Let the car do it’s thing from here, and KEEP IT CRANKED AND POWERED ON!!! There are two phases for this update. As I mentioned at the outset, I cannot visually show this process as my car is already updated but it is super straightforward from here. The once greyed out ‘update software’ button will now be ungreyed (is that a word?) and will now allow you to tap it to start the install process. Now plug in your drive and the car should recognize that you have update files to be installed. Before plugging in the drive hit the Menu button on your head unit, go into settings and under the ‘General’ tab scroll down to the ‘Software Update’ section. Safely remove your USB drive from the computer and walk out to your car (hopefully you have one, or what’s the point?) and crank it up. Seriously, the car will walk you through everything else. Congrats! You have gotten past the most difficult part of this process. kwi files to be on the root of our drive so that the car can read them.

This is highly important as the Camry won’t read any other format. I’ve seen a few people have issues formatting their drive on Mac, so just to save time find yourself a windows machine or run boot camp or a VM (I recommend VMware fusion for Mac) I seriously recommend grabbing a computer with Windows for formatting the drive. I recommend it over a microSD or portable SSD or HDD. Go grab a USB thumb drive (4GB minimum USB 2.0 is fine). You do this at your own risk!įirst things first, many thanks to *djoyce101** and fungabriel over on ToyotaNation forums for providing the server and download links respectively. However, I’m not responsible for any bricked head units. This process is ridiculously easy, and if you follow these steps to the letter you’ll be fine. I’ll later update this post with the instructions on updating those systems as well. Here’s is an in depth write up of how you update the base Entune systems (no HD Radio, no JBL 9-speaker sound systems and no CD-drive).
